From Peasant to King: Choosing Your First Life in Kingdoms of Earth

The first choice in Kingdoms of Earth is who you are. It is also the choice new players worry about most. Here is a simple way to think about it.
If you want to learn the world: Merchant
A merchant starts with a family trading house, two aides, a warehouse and a shop. You see the economy immediately, and your aides keep trading while you learn. This is the friendliest first game.
If you want a hard climb: Peasant or Miner
You own almost nothing, and that is the point. Every coin matters, the threshing floor is your first market, and the first time you hire a guard feels like a coronation.
If you want the road: Caravan Master or Sellsword
A caravan master knows the routes and already has a wagon loaded. A sellsword has a blade, a few men and contracts to win. Both spend their days moving across the map.
If you want to run a place: Headman, Steward or Village Agha
These starts put you in charge of a village or a household. Petitions, taxes and harvests are your daily life, and an agha inherits a small trading house with the land.
If you want power now: Lord, Duke or Monarch
You begin with land, armies, vassals and enemies. It looks easy for about a week. Then the bills arrive, the neighbours march and your council starts asking questions.
There is no wrong answer, and a peasant really can end up on the throne. It just takes longer.
