What it is

Footprint Lines overlay aggressive buy and sell activity from the footprint chart onto price. They show where ask-side and bid-side participation concentrated inside range bars. That is execution context — who was active at a level — not a forecast of the next bar.

What it helps you see

  • Execution pressure
  • Bid/ask imbalance
  • Aggressive participation
  • Confirmation context

How to read it

  1. A Footprint Line marks where aggressive bid-side or ask-side activity concentrated inside a range bar.
  2. Imbalance between sides describes execution pressure at that price, not a direction call.
  3. Compare neighboring bars to see whether participation stayed one-sided or rotated.
  4. Use the overlay as confirmation context next to DOM Lines and Big Trades.
  5. It describes activity that already happened.

Example on chart

Inside a range bar, a dense Footprint Line on the ask side can show aggressive selling concentrated at that price, while the bid side looks quieter. Another bar may reverse that balance. Read the pair as execution pressure and participation — not as a forecast of the next direction.

  • Activity threshold — Minimum aggressive volume for a line to appear.
  • Bid / ask emphasis — Visual weight for bid-side versus ask-side participation.
